Sistering CU is founded on the belief that parenting should happen in community. Our programs are motivated by a desire to provide families with a realistic and compassionate view of new parenthood and hands-on physical and emotional support.
Adding a new baby to the family can be overwhelming. Fortunately, our postpartum volunteers are trained to help make those first few weeks and months a little easier. We offer 12 postpartum visits, usually once a week, at no cost to our families. The volunteer will arrange a schedule that works for the family, and will do whatever is helpful at that particular moment in time. Support can come in a variety of different ways and no task too small. Some examples include:
Nonjudgmental support and companionship
Meal preparation and light household tasks
Care for siblings
New Parents Support Group
Join our group of parents who gather weekly to support each others' emotional health and well-being.
This group meets on Friday mornings, 10-11:30am, in the Heritage Room in the basement of OSF hospital (1400 W Park Street, Urbana). Free parking, Starbucks coffee, and snacks available at every meeting!

Postpartum Planning Class
We believe childbirth is not just about babies. When a new baby enters the world, parents are also born. To better prepare parents for this momentous change, we've partnered with OSF Heart of Mary Medical Center to contribute an extra portion on postpartum planning to their childbirth education classes. Visit OSF's website to find a local class.
